    Dr. Fachruddin M. Mangunjaya is an environmentalist, author, Associate Professor at the School of Graduate Program Universitas Nasional, and the Chairman of the Centre for Islamic Studies Universitas Nasional. Dr. Mangunjaya is a drafting member for the Islamic Declaration for Global Climate Change in Istanbul (2015), a Scholar Member of Al-Mizan Convenance for The Earth, and a member of the Advisory Group for Forum on Religion and Ecology, University of Yale, Advisory for Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation (Yayasan Kehati).

    Dr. Hanaa Al-Banna is a specialist in SDGs, Corporate Social Responsibility, and sustainability. She holds the positions of lecturer and module leader at Northumbria University London, International Initiatives Manager at Global One, and adjunct lecturer at Hamad Bin Khalifa University. Hanaa serves as an executive committee member of the United Nations funded program, “the Alliance of NGOs and CSOs for South South Cooperation,” where she plays a crucial role in empowering organisations within the Global South. She was listed as one of the 100 most influential people in the MENA region for both 2020 and 2021.

    Dr. Hayu Prabowo is Chairman of the Environmental & Natural Resources Agency of the Indonesian Ulema Council, National Facilitator of Interfaith Rainforest Initiative Indonesia, and Chairman of Inter Agencies & International Relations Department of the Indonesian Council of Mosques. He earned a Doctorate degree in Islamic economics and finance, and is pursuing a second doctorate in Qur’anic Science. During his tenure, he initiated 6 fatwas on environmental issues and is currently finalizing the fatwa on climate change. He also initiated the ecomasjid (environmentally friendly mosques) program to integrate Islamic teachings with the environmental issues of the daily lives of people.

    Francesco is the general manager of the Leave it in the Ground Initiative, and has been following the Fossil Free Zones project for a number of years. He has lived most of his life in Rome, Italy, and has worked in climate and environment protection in several countries.

    Rev. Susan Hendershot is the president of Interfaith Power & Light (IPL), an organization with a mission to mobilize people of faith and conscience to take bold and just action on climate change. IPL works in all 50 states and U.S. territories with a reach of 22,000 faith communities across the U.S. Rev. Hendershot graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Bethany College in West Virginia. She went on to undertake a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology. She is ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

This session aims to showcase the unique potential of places of worship to influence people as centers of culture, spirituality, education and community life.

This session will introduce the work of leading figures working around these topics, as well as the example of emerging fossil free places of worship, spanning different continents and religions.
