Edson LubinFoundation of Knowledge and Liberty (FOKAL) – Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2022 Honoree, Agronomist
Edson Lubin was born in Cap Haitien, the main city of the northern department of Haiti. He studied agronomy, specializing in rural agro engineering, at the State University of Haiti, graduating in 2000.
In 2010 he joined the FOKAL team to develop a community waste management program in the Martissant neighborhoods surrounding the Martissant Park managed by FOKAL. He remains to this day a partner and consultant for FOKAL on several environmental projects, developing accessible pedagogical tools for children as well as for communities on composting, environment protection and food security. -

Mauro GarofaloThe Community of Sant’Egidio - Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2023 Co-Honoree, Head of the Department of International Relations
Mauro Garofalo assumed the position of Head of International Relations Office for the Community of Sant’Egidio in 2006. Since 2008, he has served as Conflict Resolutions Unit officer and serves as the representative to many countries and international organizations. He is involved in the secretariat for inter-religious and ecumenical dialogues.
Dr. Garofalo has helped in a number of international rescue operations in Afghanistan and Senegal, since 2008; and he has participated in and contributed to various peace actions in Africa (North and Sub-Saharan), the Middle East, and Far East Asia.
Dr. Garofalo has been involved with various grass-root service initiatives. He also is an historian of Arts and a trained Archeologist, having followed several archeological research sites and published articles on various subjects. -
Ms. Shamsa Abu Bakar Fadhil « Mama Shamsa »Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2023 Co-Honoree, Honoree
Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2023 honoree Ms. Shamsa Abubakar Fadhil is a Kenyan peace mediator and community mobilizer. Known as ‘Mama Shamsa’, she is being recognized for nurturing youth in her home country and saving young people from lives of violence, crime, and extremism, by providing them with counseling, care, training and entrepreneurial opportunities.
To combat widespread criminal activities in Mombasa, she pioneered a comprehensive campaign to reform affected youth that contributed to the transformation of over 10000 youths. After receiving the Award, she established the Zayed Microenterprise Seed Support Program to support entrepreneurship in her community.
